Grl Band Blog visits The Clubhouse!

Lindsey @Grlbandblog visited The SSE Hydro to see Olly Murs and experience the new VIP lounge 'The Clubhouse'. Here's what she thought...

As a huge music lover, I have attended many a gig at the SSE Hydro - with The 1975’s show earlier this year being one of my all-time favourites! Seriously, it was amazing. However, last week I was kindly invited along to the venue’s brand-new Clubhouse, for a little bit of a different gig experience. Here is a roundup of what I got up to…

Arrival at the Clubhouse

Having read up on the venue’s Clubhouse beforehand, I was more than excited to check it out for myself - and my expectations were high. Upon collecting our tickets, we were quickly fast-tracked to the front of the ticket queue (VIP service or what?) and were led through the luxury hospitality entrance. Here we were checked in by a lovely Hydro staff member who guided us through, the members area to the Clubhouse - which is situated in the hidden depths of the arena.

On arrival at the (stunning) Clubhouse area, we were shown to our private table which would be reserved for us throughout the entire night.

As well as hanging out before the show started, with the Clubhouse Upgrade, guests are able to return to their table during show breaks - and for an hour after performances finish - which means you can chill out and avoid the dreaded train station rush. Guests can also wave goodbye to bar queues and pre-order their drinks here too - how handy!

Inside the Clubhouse

Once seated at our private table, we were treated to our arrival drink - in my case, an ice cold G&T! I have to note that the interiors of the Clubhouse are just beautiful - think lush, crushed velvet seating and neon signs galore - it is an Instagram dream. From our table, we could also sneak a peek into the main arena before the gig started which was really cool.

The Food.

Next up it was time for the bit we had been waiting for - the food (I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t already viewed the menu online - I am definitely one of those people). As part of the Clubhouse upgrade, guests have a choice of a main course with fries and one side from their Street Food inspired menu - which I think is excellent value for money. From The Taco Club to Halloumi Fries and Salt n’ Pepper Wings, there really is an option for everyone.

Whilst browsing the menu, I was also really pleased to see that they have a great selection of well thought out veggie and vegan options available too. I opted for the Vegan Club burger with fries and a side of Buffalo Cauliflower Wings (my all-time favourite) - both of which were amazing! If I hadn’t been so full from our delicious meal - I would definitely have ordered one of their dreamy desserts too as they sounded insane - maybe next time!

When it came to service at the Clubhouse, I honestly couldn't praise the staff enough, everyone was so kind and helpful - especially our waitress (I didn't manage to catch her name) but she was super attentive and lovely throughout our time there.

An Unforgettable Night

After finishing our meal, it was time to head down to the main arena, ready for the Olly Murs gig (my ultimate guilty pleasure). As expected, the show was fantastic. From the lighting and production to Olly’s setlist and cheeky chappy stage presence, everything was just perfect.

As I mentioned, I've attended quite a few gigs over the years, but our night at the Clubhouse was one to remember! I can't thank the Hydro enough for inviting us along.

Final Thoughts

I feel like the Hydro's Clubhouse package is perfect for adding a little touch of luxury to any gig experience. I imagine it would also be perfect for celebrating extra special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries etc. As an avid gig goer, I know that this is something that I would love.

For £25 pp for all of the VIP perks mentioned above, I think it is fantastic value for money and would wholeheartedly recommend. I know I will definitely be returning again soon!
