A spine-tingling night at The SSE Hydro if ever there was one.
There really is no composer quite like Hans Zimmer. The German musician drew the audience in, taking them on a journey of highs and lows, through some of his finest big screen works.
Zimmer takes to the stage alone and is joined by an incredible calibre of musicians, one after the other - three drummers on raised platforms, two violins, a cellist and a stunning array of guitarists. They begin with Driving Miss Daisy moving into ‘Discombobulate’ from Sherlock Holmes, before the curtain drops to reveal an entire orchestra and choir for Madagascar’s ‘Zoosters Breakout’.
In between songs the audience are introduced to members of the band, each one with a personal, emotional connection to the lead man. He holds them all on musical pedestals and spends significantly more time rocking out with each than conducting.
Tracks from Gladiator are followed by The Da Vinci Code before Lebo M stuns the audience for The Lion King. The Dark Knight, Interstellar and Inception are something else – the audience are blown away by the musical genius of Hans Zimmer and honoured to have such talent in Glasgow.
