HOWDY NASHVILLE

Friday 16 June saw a parade of checked shirts, fringed jackets and cowboy hats through the Scottish Event Campus, which only meant one thing… Nashville was in town.

The hit American TV show follows the fictitious lives of country music singers and songwriters as they attempt to conquer the music industry. Filled with scandal, rivalry, love stories and performances in the legendary Bluebird Café and Grand Ole Opry, the show has brought country music to the masses.

Pulses were racing as characters Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten), Scarlett O’Connor (Clare Bowen), Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson) and Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) kicked off the Nashville party with a few solo performances.  From ‘What if I Was Willing’ to ‘Hand to Hold,’ the Glasgow audience were no stranger to the TV hits and sang along with every word.

Each performed a few of their own songs. Clare brought her fiancé on stage while Jonathan dedicated ‘Unchained Melody’ to his wife; and brought the house down in the process.  The (largely female!) audience went wild for Charles Esten performing an off-the-cuff rendition of Mull of Kintyre.

The four cast members joined forces to end the evening with hits ‘Heroes’, ‘One More Son’, and ‘A Life That’s Good,’ to a standing ovation from the adoring crowd.
