MENDES MANIA HITS THE SSE HYDRO

Teenage hysteria reached new heights when 18-year-old Canadian pop sensation Shawn Mendes opened his hotly anticipated 2017 Illuminate World Tour at The SSE Hydro on 27 April.

As a social media superstar with 22 million Instagram followers, Shawn is used to his loyal fanbase keeping up with his every move. However, his dashing Disney prince smile and clean cut charm proved too much for the Hydro crowd in person. In awe of their idol, teens were reduced to tears from the moment he stepped on stage for the debut live performance of his smash new single There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.

Mid gig Shawn disappeared, only to pop up in the middle of the adoring crowd on a B stage performing his UK Number 1 single Stitches and covering Ed Sheeran’s Castle on the Hill.

Throughout his 90-minute set devoted fans sang along to every word and offered ecstatic screams of support whenever he glanced their way.

Far from being just a pretty face for swooning Scottish teens – Shawn’s raw vocal talent and musicianship was clear as he finished with fan favourite anthem Treat You Better.
